I haven't seen Aldaron so riled up since he found out Zoey 101 was being cancelled. Its heartwarming and endearing in a way.

I'm just turning into the old community fart who likes to quote everyone and tell them they're wrong. These quote boxes are very nice. I hope we can keep them with the new template Mhaddy is cooking up.
For something completely different but slightly related since I'm loving this new video tag that works with everything:
OMG! Aldy! Booyah! That vid was awesome, thanks for posting it.
As much as tribes frustrated the heck out of me b ecause I had a really crappy connection, I still did love it. That video shows so much of what made Tribes great. But it wasn't just the mechanics, those made it massively fun, but the community made it absolutely awesome. Non-hostile, yet brutal, rivalries. People skill balancing teams so everyone could have fun. Entire matches grinding to a halt to teach people how to play better. Laughing at your own and everyone else's deaths. Etc, etc, etc...
Starsiege and Starsiege:Tribes; still the only two games I have played that truly had great communities. GuildWars comes close in generosity, but not in sheer fun and hilarity.
I decided to take the afternoon off and really just get back into how bad the Singleplayer was and boy was I not disappointed. The Everest sized rage I had when I bought the thing has boiled down into merely a rapid succession of "Really? Really guys?" and a ferverent wish that they would stop with the GODDAMNED SKI TUTORIALS. THE WHOLE GAME IS SKI TUTORIALS. You can't even strafe jet and the skiing seems to be a single track mind, most literally. If they had fixed those two mechanics I think it would have been okay... but of course I haven't gotten to the Test. God. Hours of tutorial and then a quiz to make sure I'm good enough to keep playing? If I got this far it should be self-evident. Blargnehnafsd.Originally Posted by failure
I don't think this is a case or who's wrong and who's right , it's a colaboration of views on whether T:V is worth it or not.I'm just turning into the old community fart who likes to quote everyone and tell them they're wrong.
I've simply stated I have no issues with the game or engine regarding anything I've wanted to do with it , not fully understanding what could be done with T1 and T2 I'm just going to have to agree with you Aldaron.
Those models were made by a player called KillaDEE , Dehav and myself applied the physics to them using ( Yes ) the rover parameters ........ still a shit load of fun.
Did you use T1 or 2 to create models beyond what came out with the game ? , I'd be interested in seeing them.
Certainly for it's time of release T1 must have been a revolution ....... but for me being an older type gamer who never knew about it until I had played T:V for a while going by the video you posted and the short time I've spent playing it .. it really doesn't grab me.
I'm enjoying the convo btw , thanks.

I actually never modded or mapped for T2. All my experience modding the franchise was on the Darkstar engine which powers both Starsiege: Tribes and Starsiege. That engine would eventually be purchased by GarageGames (founded and staffed by ex-Dynamix employees after Sierra shut Dynamix down) and turned into the Torque Game Engine that Tribes 2 used. The great thing about T1/T2 is if you can mod/map/script for one the skills translate very well to the other.
I tried my hand at creating an artillery vehicle with a stabilizing-deployable mode shortly after T:V first came out. Didn't really work out. It became too frustrating to trick T:V into doing it.
The May 2005 issue of Computer Gaming World that revealed the next Unreal game to the world was my inspiration based on their description of new vehicles to the Unreal franchise. Had I completed it it would have been similar to a vehicle that came with Unreal Tournament 3 years later, the SPMA:
Other people did play with T2 though. There were even mods that added mechs to the game. Nothing was safe from modders' greedy hands:

From playing both the single and multiplayer demo's.
My new judgement is....
Not worth it.
(ps i looked through every part of the game and then some (even tried to hack it to get the full version (terrible choice, almost screwed up my compy)))

"I mean, I can go onto Xbox Live and shoot my friends in the face, but that doesn't actually prove that I'm a hardcore gamer. However, when I look at their GamerScores online and see that they don't even have the cojones to get all 1000 points from EA's Fight Night Round 3, I know that I'm better than them, not just as a gamer, but as a human being as well." - Achievements Anonymous
