News: Tribes 1 Master Server Goes the Way of Starsiege's

Well, it was inevitable. Sierra announced earlier this week that it would end multiplayer support for 20 of its "heritage" titles, including Tribes 1, on August 16th. While this news, to some, may seem like the end of playing Tribes 1 online, Starsiege vets will remember the community fix that was put in place when Sierra ended Starsiege multiplayer support. To that end, Bloodyboots from our forums pointed out that a community run Tribes 1 multiplayer master server is already in the works, care of Tribes One.

The Starsiege master has functioned up to this point, though it has had temporary outages on occasion. It actually went down a few days ago, but apparently is back online this morning. My guess is that their master program has Tribes and Starsiege both in it. Which is why Starsiege has had a master server available all this time.

I'm hoping they won't actually bother taking down the master server, but if they do, people at least do have options.

I guess we'll know for sure on end of business Aug 16.

As a result of the recent corporate acquisitions and mergers, Activision/Blizzard will be migrating currently supported titles and franchises to new forums; the remaining forums and game servers for unsupported titles will be shut down. Exact details are still being worked out, and more information will be posted when it becomes available.

There once was an unfinished and completely unpolished and bug ridden 1.4 patch for Tribes back in 2007, that was never 'released', just 'leaked' by person unknown, that has long since been passed on the wayside by the subsequent 7 patches that brought Tribes through patches from 1.0 to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, etc to the current 1.11.

This 'new' "leaked" 1.4 patch is just the old one that someone took and modified (again)

Is it? I thought it was the patch that NoFix, Plasmatic, and a few others were working on with GarageGames for release on PlayTribes.

don't know anything about what GG is doing for their browser based Tribes game conversion, but I do know that 1.4 is a 3 year old patch not even halfway through the 'real' patch list that ended at 1.11

There seems to be a bit of confusion. The version GG has been working on that was leaked a week or two ago is not a rehashed 1.4. It's 1.11 with a few of the additions the 1.30 LastHope patch made plus some extras like no longer using volume files or phoenix bitmaps.

They versioned it as 1.40 to honor the 1.30 patch the Tribes community put out themselves. It's still the traditional desktop client Tribes has always been, but the new technology IA has been developing will let it be embedded on a web page like a YouTube video.

Now if someone can help me find the links to the modded maps so I can upload them I'd be very happy.
Just need the downloads so I can play in the servers without being booted cuz I dont have this or that thing thats modded to play.

Super unfortunate that Tribes1 is up and running again in the form of a browser based game. Released by Garage Games some time ago.

It never came out. It was put on the back burner for the reinvention of their platform. A beta release of Tribes 1.40 was released to the public by a tester though.
