    Great Old Games

While dusting off Freespace 2 and downloading the latest Freespace Open Project installation files that upgrade the game tremendously, one of the things mentioned on the web site was a link to a place called Great Old Games, where you can find hundreds of older retail games given new life and made XP/Vista compatible (if they already weren't) and sold dirt cheap. The majority of their games are $5.99 with some running up to $9.99.

Some of the games you can get there:

    Phantasmagoria 1 & 2
    Freespace 1 &2
    The Civilization Series
    The Gabriel Knight Series
    Smoking Mirror series
Heroes of Might and Magic Series
    Comanche and Apache vs series
    Krondor and Gothic Series
    Descent 1, 2 & 3
    Fallout 1 & 2
    Bloodrayne series
    Castles 1 & 2
    Creatures series
    Duke Nukem Series

and hundreds more, like the old Sierra, Activision, Dynamix, and Apogee stuff, newer stuff like IL-2 1946 with all it's expansions, etc. Way way too much to even attempt to list here. Just think Steam, for older games, without all the crap added. Odds are good if someone has been looking for an older and very hard to find game they might have it there, direct to download.

    Here's the web site:

There were a couple of games I demoed a while back that I always wanted to play, before they went out of print, but the one I most wish I could get working on XP was Iron Assault Man I loved that game.

I took a look over at the DOSBox web site and supposedly Iron Assault was fully supported in DOSBox as of version .70 and now they are up to .73

I'll give it a look see, but I think the real issue isn't DOSBox, but the graphics card I'm running, whatever it is.

Dune 2 and Ascendancy are probably one of the games I most fondly remember. Ascendancy seemed to be so far ahead of the game back when it was released... *sigh*

Ascendancy is abandonware now: http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/221/Ascendancy.html - great time to grab the game and give it a go on DOSBox.

    Ares I love you!!!!!

I've been trying to find a way to replay Iron Assault for several years now. DosBox's current version seems to work. Installed, Vids, music, sound, graphics seem to work okay. The only issue I need to work through is the sampling rate of the keyboard (and maybe the mouse) some of the controls when hit you have to hold down a while to work, and others, move so fast you can barely control them, but still, that may be a simple thing to fix, I'll do more research on it later. (Btw I tried using a front end ProGammaX I think it was to get the sound issue resolved I think.)
