This saddens me, but I guess it was inevitable after all the crap the team had to go through just for an ATR.

Trajan has modified his post to include a link to tJY as a possible site for the community to hang out at until they re-open the site. Considering that the site will be for an entirely different scene, I think we need to consider alternatives for the community; brainstorming welcome. I'll personally offer the Ultra Force boards as a temporary solution--we currently are involved in both play by post and Netmech IV combat (based off of the ISW persistent world). I'd also offer up the FS2 as a possible alternative; Beyond the Red Line seemed to spark quite a bit of interest, I'd like to see some interest in the other user created content for the FS2 SCP.Proud member of the Ultra Force

I really don't care where that community rallies for now, I offered to host something off of UF's space (we got more then we know what do with right now), but I'd need to know what direction folks would want to go in. I've invited a few folks over to UF's forum to discuss where we plan to go from here as far as gaming goes, and I'd love to see people from the SS Community in other games as well. It was the players that made the game such a blast, if you ask me.
(I also don't like that Trajan basically forced those who want to network to use Mhaddy's forum, maybe without permission?) But beggars can't be choosers

I don't think Mhaddy would mind at all. I also think the reason why Jake decided to throw tJY as the site was because its one of the few neutral, non-squad sites available. I think if we do come up with a community forums/site, it would be better than this (certainly no offense to this site), but at least there is SOMETHING up there now.Proud member of the Ultra Force

Let me rephrase, I don't know for certain whether mhaddy would care or not, but some of the folks on the yard forums might not get along with some of the members from the CC forums. I just don't want to see any flamewars at this critical juncture...My concerns may be without merit though. The yard is certainly a site that needs some traffic and maybe it could revive it.
there is also StarsiegePlayers.com but he didn't direct folks there, (though I imagine there is even less traffic there then here on the yard).
Please tell me the yardies have some better ideas here

I expected the failure of the project was inevitable, especially after lack of vocal development after the ATR release. I enjoyed the original Starsiege, but for some reason I didn't like the way this game was going. Nice indy effort, lots of time put in and sacrifice, but without a clear cut plan, budget, and timeline an idea like this would never come to fruitation, simple facts-of-life when it comes to the gaming industry.

Oh great points Jasio and I concur. I for a long time felt the project seemed to lack any "software engineering" directives, and for the life of me I never understood why. Some of the things they wanted to do they just for some reason didn't have in the ATR. These were things I felt would have been top of the line important! Oh well Clancore isn't gone yet, but this effort has likely diminished their returns on their investment into Starsiege's Intellectual Property.

Though I wonder, and this may be worth it's own thread, what did you hope for in a sequel to SS? And (especially you Feret, giving your well reasoned points in a multi of posts) What would like to see in a "post-'Siege" game?
I know this is a much debated topic but, what makes a game a "classic"?
Is it the story, the gameplay, the moddability, the ease of use, the flexability, or perhaps the balance.

i daresay Starsiege was a "cult classic." the community is small, but fairly tight-knit, and we all share one overriding thing in common: we love Starsiege, though most of us don't play it any more.
the original Starsiege: Tribes was a "classic." it had a very large and tight-knit community - and still does.
what i think made them that way is the fact that they were complete, unadulterated fun. it was all-out combat done in a balanced and entertaining way. the story was top-notch, and, in my opinion, unmatched by all games that followed. the only thing that was missing was an RTS. :P
i actually think the only reasons it didn't make it into the gaming canon were because it didn't change gaming or create a new way to game, and it simply wasn't well-known.
