Wow, it's been forever, but visiting this site I remember how the www.skinnersguild.com was a big part of TRIBES:2 and somehow connected to this site.
The Skinnersguild had a big part in getting me into creating textures and modding videogames. It is amazing to think how simple creating textures for Tribes 2 is compared to todays games. The only issue was the sheer amount of textures you had to create for a complete skin pack. Many times people only did one to three textures in all. Even my Master Chief skin took several versions before I had all 9 textures for Male, Female and Bioderm skins compiled!
Unfortunately, I recall the end of the Skinnersguild occurring around the release of Tribes: Vengeance with a weak contest without many if any prizes, seemingly whipped up at the final moment by, possibly, Vivendi's advertising department to create some buzz in the modding community for the upcoming game. The nail in the coffin after everyone spent so much time and sweat to create some incredible skins only to have the winners not be added to the game itself! I don't know... if any of you (*cough* BigPappa, Trinity, Vastiatio?) remember the details feel free to add your own voice.
I always loved the name Skinnersguild. I guess when you keep a handle like Cenobite, guilds of skinners sounds about right! Thinking about it, the amount of naked skins alone gave the site reason to have the name.
